Fall is here - so is Pumpkin Day!

I love this time of the year - The crispness in the air, the donuts and the cider - and of course Halloween and the pumpkins. This year I am working on a really really good soup - I'll post it later or bring a copy to Pumpkin Day Huntington Woods - on the 17th - Saturday - 11am - 2 pm at the Huntington Woods Lutheran Church on 11 Mile. I am also going to use this opportunity to start this blog site over again.

I am going to recommit to new and interesting information about our community - the community at large and well just more useful information so you will come back and share your thoughts too. Check out the photos from prior years and stop by so I can start a new gallery. edee

PUMPKIN DAY -Late Mailing

Our 3rd Annual Pumpkin Day is going off with a mior glitch - the postcards were mailed late. Hopefully many of you received them  yesterday and today - if not I will be passing out FREE pumpkins, cider, donuts and a fun time in Birmingham, Due to the construction on 11 mile road, the church was an impossible location this year. Please visit the Pumpkin Patch at 300 S, Old Woodward in Birmingham - the SW corner of Brown and Old Woodward (at my office Max Broock Realtors). Hours 11am to 3pm Sunday October 19. Ask for me - bring the family and kids - looking forward to see you.   edee

EDEE, I WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR DRAWING AWARENESS TO THE BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS. WE DO NEED PEOPLE TO NOMINATE THEIR HUNTINGTON WOODS NEIGHBORS. THE CRITERION IS QUITE SIMPLE, WE ARE LOOKING FOR HOUSES THAT HAVE GREAT CURB APPEAL. THE FORMS CAN BE FOUND AT THE REC CENTER. REGINA DUNNE | Woods Gallery

Don't miss the current exhibit at the Woods Gallery.  Regina Dunne has a great story and her artwork is beautiful.  I'm looking forward to stopping by myself.  Showing through December 20 the exhibit is called Paintings-People & Places.

Originally from Cuba, Regina's journey as an artist is an inspiring one.  Her paintings reflect tremendous color and soul.  If you attend, share with everyone on the blog what you thought.

The Passing of the Torch...

Happy Thanksgiving! I just had the most wonderful time..ate my share of 5000 calories - took home a doggie bag - and walked into my clean (well sort of) house. My son, Todd and his wife, Amy, took on the holiday, it is now Thanksgiving at their home.  I think of the Lion King (by the way it is coming to the Michigan Opera House in a few weeks) and the circle of life. First dinners at my grandmother's, then mom's, then dinners at my house and now at my children's. The family is small, then big, then small then big again. I love this part of life, it feels so good to pass traditions on to the next generation. So I am very thankful for this season and for today...and especially grateful that Todd is such and amazing cook, each bite was better than the last. I hope that all of you enjoyed your holiday too.   edee

Pumpkin Photos

Sometimes technology makes me crazy. And finding time to do all the things that I want to do...makes me crazier. I wanted to let you know that I have some really great photos of the "pumpkin pickers" and they will be posted in the next few days. So keep checking in and keep leaving a thought or two.

I hope that you are enjoying the weather changes - I saw a XMAS commercial last evening for the 1st time this season - unbelievable that it is that time again. I at least expected turkeys 1st!  Enjoy the day.   edee

Success was Ours...on Pumpkin Day!

In spite of the rainy morning, we had a huge Huntington Woods turn our at edee's Pumpkin Day - we gave away 2 tons of pumpkins, donuts, cider, bunny ears, safety alarms, candy and balloons - a great time was had by all. I learned that if you spray the pumpkins with either hair spray or Cayenne pepper (or perhaps both -the more is better theory) the squirrels won't eat them. Give it a try and they should last past Wednesday.

I can't begin to thank my friends and family enough. Basil was the best at chatting, playing with the kids, passing out candy and happens to be the greatest "computer person" I know! What a trouper Cindy was - sporting baseball cap instead of having  a "bad hair day"! She was a long time Huntington Woods resident and a terrific support to me on this fun, fun day with alarms and bunny ears in hand. A plug for her; she is a successful and very qualified loan consultant, ceaton@nmco.net. My son Todd schlepped  pumpkins till they were gone and my girls, Lily and Chloe, well they just had fun.

Congratulations to the all the soccer teams that played - it was quite the day. For some it was the 1st win of the season (perhaps they should always play in the rain) - what a way to finish.

Guess what? It's Pumpkin Day time again! It's hard to believe how quickly the year goes by. I hope you will come out and join us this year for the annual edeeandme pumpkin day.  Yes, I will be there with delicious local cider and doughnuts.  Yes, there will be plenty of gorgeous FREE pumpkins for everyone that stops by to say hi.

SHOP FOR A CAUSE | HW Women's League

As always, I love to support all of the activities through the HW organizations. Shop for a Cause Event presented by the Huntington Woods Women's League is always fun and truly worthwhile. Brenda McLaren is the HWWL Treasurer and contacted us to promote the Shop for a Cause Event on this HW BLOG SITE.

We love it when Huntington Woods residents and organizations utilize this site to promote events, talk about current issues, really anything you want.  I hope to see more and more of you blogging in the near future.

This years Shop for a Cause Event - is the 3rd Annual Progressive Shop Event to Benefit Local Women's and Children's Charities and will be on held on Sunday, November 18th from 12:00 - 5:00.   There will be great holiday gifts, shopping will be fun and there will be many, handmade & specialty items as well as refreshments and a raffle!

Maps to the homes and merchandise information will be available the day of the event and any questions can be directed to Carol Cross - 248-586-0414. You might even find that if you call you can become a Committee Member. What a great way to meet new people and help out our community.As more information becomes available I will get it up on the site. This comunity site is intended as an interactive space---your space---so contribute as much and as often as you wish. We'll put it up!
